Pesaro

Gioachino Rossini and Pesaro To the city of Pesaro the name of the great musician Gioachino Rossini is associated, as he was born here in 1792.

Great composer, huge, immense, universal genius in the field of music. His activity has ranged over various musical genres, but he is remembered above all as one among the greatest opera composers of history. The first part of his life was as one of his very famous, overwhelming crescendo  (he composed the first work at the age of fourteen); then - as to begin a second existence - the precocious and sudden abandonment of theatre, the depression and the withdrawal in the peace of the Parisian country of Passy. With a lot of pages of music still to write.

At his death, in 1868, the composer left heir of his great fortune his city. This allowed, in 1882, the institution of the Conservatorio di Musica (Conservatory of Music) and then, in 1974, Fondazione Rossini (the Rossini Foundation), with the ambitious project of publication of the work of the Teacher in critical edition. From 1980 the activity of the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) is added: autonomous corporate body promoted by public and private institutions under the patronage of the President of the Republic.

Every year, during the month of August, the Rossini Opera Festival promotes the homonymous lyric demonstration entirely devoted to Rossini. The ROF has established itself as one of the first three monographic musical reviews of international level, together with Salisburgo and Bayreuth. During the years, the Festival has returned several unknown masterpieces to the world.
